A Thanksgiving Message from Bp. Dillahunt

Bishop Suzanne Darcy Dillahunt southern ohio synod
O give thanks to the Lord, for the Lord is good, for God’s steadfast love endures forever!
Psalm 136:1 (NRSV)

How have you thanked God this month – In prayer? In praise? In thanksgiving for being?
The season of “thanksgiving” is here even in the midst of our world that is in chaos and war, sickness and despair. Our faith reminds us that we are to give thanks always because God’s steadfast love through Jesus is forever.

God’s love is forever.
That truth doesn’t take away the hurt and pain that we experience or the hurt and pain of our neighbors around the world. But, it gives us hope that there is something beyond ourselves. The season of “thanksgiving” provides a chance for us to stop and ponder all that God has done in the midst of everything going on by being present with us. Jesus Christ is with us. The Holy Spirit is with us.

What are you giving thanks for this season?

In the waters of baptism, we are reminded to thank and praise the God of all creation –  the same God who is also the God of salvation, and the God who renews us and the earth.

As stewards of this creation, we respond by sharing the news that God’s love endures forever and is present even when we don’t see it, notice it, or recognize it.

The Synod Staff Team and I wish you a blessed, healthy, and safe Thanksgiving. We give thanks for how we see God at work in and through each of you and how you are involved in your local congregations and ministries. May the God of peace be present with you throughout this holiday weekend.

In Christ,
Bishop Suzanne Darcy Dillahunt
