A Christmas Message to the Southern Ohio Synod

Bishop Suzanne Darcy Dillahunt southern ohio synod

Merry Christmas, Southern Ohio Synod!

As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you. Now remain in my love.
(John 15:9)

Christmas is a reminder of God’s profound love for us—a love so great that Jesus was sent to save us. Through Christ’s life, death, and resurrection (yes, even at Christmas we hold Easter in our hearts), we receive life, grace, and forgiveness.

Glory to God in the Highest!

Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Shepherds, why this jubilee?
Why your joyous strains prolong?
What gladsome tidings be
Which inspire your heavenly song?
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!

The angels were the first heralds of Jesus’ birth, and the shepherds, the first to receive and proclaim this Good News. They heard, they saw, and they went forth, sharing the joy of the Savior’s arrival. Like the shepherds, we too are called to rejoice and spread this message of love and hope.

In this holy season, whatever may surround you, remember to:

  • Remain in the love that came as a child, so we may have life.

  • Remain in that love, so we can share the Good News with those around us.

  • Remain in the joy of Christmas, celebrating as heralds and shepherds.

Gloria, in excelsis Deo! Jesus Christ is born! Amen.

Merry Christmas to all from Bishop Dillahunt and the Southern Ohio Synod Staff!

Please enjoy this arrangement of Carol of the Bells performed by Joshua Brodbeck.

Oh, how they pound, raising the sound
O’er hill and dale, telling their tale
Gaily they ring, while people sing
Songs of good cheer, Christmas is here
Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas!
